With the warmer months in full-swing, Metro Vancouver is in high gear with working on the roads.
If you’re going to be out and about this summer, then you should know about these road closures and road projects. Plan accordingly, allot some extra travel time, and you’ll be set to hit the road with no trouble.
ROAD CLOSURES
It seems like no matter where you drive these days, there’s roadwork going on. And you’d be right– there’s tons of work happening throughout Metro Vancouver right now. Depending on where you’re located, and where you’re driving to, from, and through, there could be more than you’re expecting.
We’ve broken down the major roadwork that’s happening right now, so your drives are as smooth as possible.
Richmond
- Intersection construction on No. 2 Road at Westminster Highway
- Intersection construction on Cambie Road at No. 4 Road
- Intersection construction at Westminster Highway at Garden City Road
- July 14 to 26: No. 2 Road on ramp from River Road closed to crossing over No. 2 Road to River Road at River Road
- Ongoing construction on Gilbert Road
- July: Road paving on Cambie Road (Shell Road to No. 5 Road)
- July: Road paving on No. 6 Road (Bridgeport Road to Sweden Way)
- August: Road paving on Moncton Street (Railway Avenue to No. 2 Road)
Coquitlam
- Sewer work until end of August: Austin Avenue from Schoolhouse Street to Gatensbury Street
- Minor road repairs July 7 until 12: Barnett Highway from Falcon Drive to Westword Street
- Road repaving:
- August through October: Cornell Avenue from SChoolhouse Street to Poirier Street
- July 21 until end of August: Falcon Drive from Guildford Way to Port Moody border
- July 21 until end of August: Honeysuckle Lane from Bluebell Avenue to Lansdowne Drive
- July 14 to mid-August: Mundy Street from Austin Avenue to Dawes Hill Road
- Water main construction starting August for approximately five months: Robson Drive closed at west side of Pipeline Road
Burnaby
- Pavement repairs from July 2 until end of August: closures off Kensington Avenue exist westbound off Highway 1
- North Rd sewer upgrades
- Douglas Rd water main replacement until Fall 2025: closures on Kincaid St between Teal Ave and Canada Way
- Repavement work and road upgrades until mid-September: closures on Gilmore Ave between Lougheed Highway and Halifax St
New Westminster
- Pattullo Bridge Replacement Project
- Night closures from July 14 to 19: Columbia Street
- July 2 to August 29: closures on 8th Avenue, 20th Street to 12th Street
- June 2 to August: eastbound closure on McInnes Overpass North
- July 15 to August 5: southbound traffic closure for Uptown Plaza and 6th Street
