Locations Revealed For 10 Public Pianos In Vancouver

Vancouver Receives Ten Public Pianos for the Summer

In an earlier post, 604 Now reported there would be 10 public pianos placed in Vancouver thanks to the success of the Keys to the Streets program last summer, that placed four public pianos in different areas of the city.

The surprise element of the project this summer was to keep the six new locations a secret until they were officially unveiled. On Canada Day, all 10 pianos were revealed in the following locations:

Vancouver Public Pianos Locations

  • Spyglass Dock
  • Robson Park
  • Creekside Community Centre
  • Vancouver Aquarium
  • Canada Place
  • Dude Chilling Park
  • Strathcona Park
  • Main and 21st Avenue
  • Chinatown
  • West Hastings and Hornby

The pianos were all either donated or acquired through Craigslist. All the Pianos will be located outdoors with a rain cover, a bench, and a community stewarding organization that will take care of the piano. Local artists have also been hired to paint the pianos. Members of the community have also volunteered to take care of the pianos, such as covering them up if it starts to rain.

This program runs from July 1st to August 24th, and the pianos will be available for anyone to play, from aspiring pianists to total beginners. Organizers ask that people wanting to use the pianos do so between the hours of 7:00am through 11:00pm, so that local residents are not disturbed. After the program finishes in August, all the pianos will be donated to their stewarding organization.
