Destructive Hurricane To Sweep Across A Popular Tropical Destination

If you’ve got a trip coming up, you may want to be extra careful as hurricane season rolls through from early June to the end of November. During this time, the Atlantic, Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico are on high alert as small tropical storms can develop quickly into destructive hurricanes.

Now, Hurricane Simon will be sweeping across Mexico very soon. Travellers, here’s what you should know before you hop on that plane.

Hurricane Simon is a major hurricane that expected to travel across the west-central coast of Mexico from Punta San Telmo to San Blas.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami reported that Simon’s maximum sustained winds increased to 155 km/h with higher gusts on Friday. It is expected to intensify and strengthen further on Saturday. “Preparations should be rushed to completion today,” reads a report published on Friday, October 9, 2026.

When Will the Storm Arrive?

According to the federal government, Hurricane Simon is expected to impact Mexico’s central-west coast on October 10, 2026. “The storm is likely to bring excessive rainfall and violent winds. It may cause flash flooding and landslides and could severely disrupt… essential services,” they warn.

  • telecommunications networks
  • emergency services
  • medical care
