After an arduous, seven year affair, a flight service directly between Seattle and Vancouver’s downtown core launches today.
Seattle’s Kenmore Air officially begins its floatplane service today, Thursday, April 26th, between the city and downtown Vancouver. Following this, the charter plans to operate round-trip departures twice daily each weekday.
Right now, Kenmore Air, the Canadian floatplane counterpart, is still awaiting the green light; however, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security should grant the charter its approval within a week’s time.
“If Harbour Air is granted the approval to operate scheduled flights to Seattle, it will start by flying two round-trip flights on weekends. The airline would then also take over flying one of the two daily weekday flights that Kenmore Air would have been flying,” reports Business Vancouver.

Seattle to Vancouver Flights
Sadly, the flights may prove unaffordable to the average resident of Metro Vancouver.
Estimates state that the price of a Canadian one-way fare could soar as high as $370. Right now, flights from YVR are less, and even with gas prices soaring, a full tank would be substantially less. And, a tank would probably cover a round-trip journey for most vehicles.
With that in mind, the service will still be a boon for business between the two technology hubs. Otherwise, travellers face long waits at the border or checking into the main airports with all the other traffic.
Conversely, the flights will take less than an hour to complete.
What’s more, Facebook just announced that they plan to open a second corporate office on Burrard Street next year. This means that there will be even more business trips between the two city centres.
