Returning for another exciting year is Oval Community Day on Sunday, August 9! Presented by Go Auto, Oval Community Day is an annual summer event where the Richmond community gathers at the iconic Richmond Olympic Oval to enjoy fun, free, and family-friendly festivities with a focus on sports and fitness.
Whether you’re an avid sports player or interested in trying something new, Oval Community Day is your chance to immerse yourself into a variety of different activities that are guaranteed to get you moving!
Oval Community Day
Happening from 10:00am to 3:00pm, Oval Community Day is all about getting your blood pumping and celebrating the amazing Richmond community. It’s a perfect day not just for families from Richmond, but all across the Lower Mainland!
Last year, over 7,500 guests attended Oval Community Day. And with this year being the third annual event, you can be sure that it’s going to be bigger and better than ever, featuring new activities for kids and adults alike.
The Highlights
- Obstacle Course: Three inflatable obstacle courses provide tons of chances for you to climb, jump, crawl, and dodge, with a 90-foot challenge included. This year, there’s even a new 2-lane bungee run!
- Sport Try-Its & Demos: Groups will be showcasing their sports skills, such as hockey, foosball, fencing and more. You can jump into the action for sports with soccer darts, wheelchair basketball, street curling, an inflatable mini rink, and more.
- Photo-Ops: Snap a pic on the podium with replica medals and torches.
- Win Prizes: Across three different zones, participate in activities to have a chance to win amazing prize packs from supporting organizations like Tourism Richmond, Vancouver Whitecaps, BC Lions, McArthurGlen, Lifemark, YYOGA, Oval Integrative Pharmacy and more.
- Self-Guided Olympic Experience Tours: Is the sun getting too hot? Head inside to check out the Olympic Experience, where you can find interactive simulators, exhibits, and inspiring Olympic stories.
- Delicious Food: Grab a hot dog or a combo from Time Out, try Tap & Snack’s special BBQ, and cool off with sweet shaved ice treats from the Kona Ice truck.
- Live Performances: Catch amazing live shows on stage, including circus acts, music, sport demonstrations, and showcases featuring RocknBeau, CircusWest, Aura Gymnastics, Fencing BC, and Foosball Canada.
On top of that, Oval Community Day has a Kids Zone, face painting, fitness challenges, a fast pitch radar, and so much more for you to discover.
What To Know Before You Go
A few things that you should know before heading out to Oval Community Day is that this is a rain-or-shine event. Be sure to dress for the weather because the festivities will be happening no matter what, and most of them take place outdoors.
Additionally, it’s recommended to bring a refillable water bottle, and to wear comfortable shoes. If the sun’s out, be sure to wear a hat and sunscreen.
And as a final note, paid parking is available in the area, but do expect it to be busy. Consider transit, walking, cycling, or nearby overflow parking options so your trip to the Richmond Olympic Oval is stress-free.
