Derek Drouin Wins Gold For Canada

Another gold for Canada in Rio.

Derek Drouin beat Qatar’s Mutaz Essa Barshim and Ukraine’s Bohdan Bondarenko in the high jump competition to secure Canada’s third goal medal of the games and 14th overall, placing them 12th overall in the medal standings.

After all three competitors cleared 2.36 m, the stage was set for Derek to shine.

He calmly cleared 2.38 m, and both Barshim and Bondarenko failed to do so landing Canada the gold medal.

This is the first time since 1932 that Canada has won gold in a high jump event when Duncan McNaughton.
