Delta Police Launch GPS Tracker To Prevent Need For High-Speed Chases

Starchase - Delta Police Launch GPS Tracker To Prevent Need For High-Speed Chases

The Delta Police Foundation is funding StarChase, a GPS tracking dart that will prevent the need for high-speed car chases.

The new technology being implemented will help officers pursue a fleeing vehicle by tagging it. The device allows them to then track the vehicle from a safe distance and apprehend the drivers once the car has come to a stop.

The Delta Police will be the first department in all of Canada to have the technology. It’s expected to be installed in its first vehicle by the end of the month, with plans to have it installed in eight of its vehicles by summer.

High-speed car chases have become far too common in Delta, says Police Chief Neil Dubord. The issue led to looking up different options to help solve the issue. They came across StarChase, which was invented by an American company.

It all became a reality when the Delta Police Foundation stepped up to provide funding for the technology.

The Abbotsford Police Department has ordered the same technology and is waiting for it to be installed. It is unknown at this time whether or not other departments will follow in their footsteps.
