The city of Richmond will expand their network of free public Wi-Fi, adding access to a number of new civic locations to better serve residents and visitors. The new services will be activated in 2016, and help connect majority of the city’s facilities under the “@richmondbc” Wi-Fi network.
List of new areas to access free Wi-Fi in Richmond:
- South Arm Community Centre, 8880 Williams Road
- Sea Island Community Centre , 7140 Miller Road
- Steveston Outdoor Pool , 4151 Moncton Street
- Thompson Community Centre, 5151 Granville Avenue
- West Richmond Community Centre, 9180 No. 1 Road
Existing areas in Richmond with free Wi-Fi:
- Richmond City Hall
- City Centre Community Centre
- Steveston Community Centre
- Richmond Olympic Oval
- Richmond Public Library at the Steveston, Cambie, Ironwood and Brighouse branches
Additional areas within Richmond with free Wi-Fi also include Richmond Public Libraries, and the Oval, who both provide open access via Telus.
The implementation of free public Wi-Fi is part of the City’s strategic direction of expanding the connected city architecture, a key component of Richmond’s Digital Strategy. The City of Vancouver has also expanded its network of free city-wide Wi-Fi, along with Yellow Cab, making itself the first Canadian taxi to offer the service.
