When it comes to food challenges, how do you think you would fare? You’ve heard of hot dog eating contests, but do you dare take on this enormous burger that has three patties, a pound of beef, bacon, AND sausage?

John Catucci did. Food Network lovers will recognize the star of You Gotta Eat Here!, the hit Canadian Food Network show. He visited the famous Hilltop Diner in Langley BC, known for both their legendary pies and their gargantuan burgers.

It’s a diner located near the Langley/Aldergrove border right next to a car dealership, with a 70’s vibe and cozy atmosphere. The Hilltop Diner was built and opened in 1946, and in march of 2011, got taken over by new owners who have kept the intimate, comfort food tradition going.

It’s one of those places that it’s a hole in the wall diner, a hidden treasure that a person holds onto once it’s been found. As Catucci puts it, Hilltop is a place where “old school meets new food, you gotta eat here!”

Their two most famous burgers, the Everest burger and the Mountain burger, are both an accomplishment to eat.

The Mountain burger is a good introduction to this burger challenge. It’s made up with two 5 ounce beef patties, a homemade pork sausage patty, double smoked bacon, baked ham, a fried egg, onion rings, mushrooms, and melted mozzarella, cheddar, and processed cheese.

Topped off with homemade BBQ sauce, lettuce, tomato, and pickles, this Mountain is unlike anything you’ve ever seen before.

The Everest burger, on the other hand, consists of three 5 ounce beef patties, almost a pound of beef, double smoked bacon, mushrooms, fried onions, farmers sausage, baked ham, mozza, cheddar, and processed cheese.

It’s topped with lettuce, tomato, and pickles, served with a side of fresh cut fries. Phew, we feel full just thinking about it!

If you manage to finish either one of those burgers, your pictures gets taken and put up on the Wall of Shame Fame.

And if you miraculously still have room for dessert after all that, Hilltop Diner has a multitude of pies – one of their most popular being their flapper pie.

Graham cracker crust on both the top and bottom, with vanilla custard and soft, fluffy meringue sandwiched in-between. Yum!
