While a bear sighting is often enjoyable, they usually occur from a distance; however, a recent encounter between man and bear near Squamish was rather disconcerting.

A group of whitewater rafters were traveling up the Elaho River between Squamish and Whistler when they encountered a troubling sight.

A kayaker was paddling up ahead of the group to make sure that they were safe; however, it turned out that the kayaker was in more trouble than his group.

Indeed, a grizzly bear had entered the water from the bank along the river and was headed in his direction. Moreover, the massive bruin charged into the river at full speed, which alarmed the entire group.

One of the whitewater rafters captured the incident on his GoPro, and posted it to his Instagram account.

The video has close to 500 views, and shows the terrifying ordeal from start to finish.

Recently, people were in close proximity to a large black bear on Port Moody’s White Pine Beach. The animal nonchalantly waltzed between picnic baskets, and the beach was closed as a result.

A black bear was also recently spotted wandering through Surrey’s Guildford area. Sadly, conservation officers determined that the predator was at risk of causing harm to the community. As a result, it was put down.
