One B.C. woman is a whole lot richer after just cleaning out her purse.

BCLC Winner

Penticton resident Albertina K bought a Lotto 6/49 ticket “on a whim” nearly a year ago on February 15, 2025 at the Shoppers Drug Mart on Main Street. She ultimately forgot about it when she placed it in her purse, finding it in later in 2026 while she was cleaning it out.

She discovered her win after scanning the ticket on BCLC’s Lotto! App.

Albertina recalled the moment she won, saying, “My daughter scanned the ticket for me on the app on her phone and then handed me an envelope that said I won. I was oblivious! I couldn’t believe it.” Since her daughter was there to scan the ticket, she was the first one to learn of the win. Albertina shared the good news with her other daughter and husband afterwards. She said, “They were all very excited for me.”

The ticket had matched 5/6+ numbers, which won her $245,448.80.

Other Big B.C. Wins

Last year, many people in B.C. have won some major lotto prizes like this Metro Vancouver couple that won $500,000 after purchasing a ticket on a whim during a shopping trip together.

Another BCLC winner story comes from one Metro Vancouver man who claimed his $1-million prize, saying in his interview that all his son had to say about it was a funny little request. Other notable wins include B.C.’s biggest jackpot ever that was cashed in at $80 million, and a Vancouver resident who netted $40 million with his ticket.

If you’re feeling lucky, remember to know your limitplay within it.
