Who tips the most in Canada? A question that crosses every waitresses mind at some point, and occasionally yours too if you eat out often.
Mobile payment company Square recently revealed some interesting numbers after a survey they conducted on which Canadian city tips the most, and how much. The survey analyzed our nations five largest cities: Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal, Ottawa, and Toronto.
The folks from:
- Calgary tip 59.4%, with an average 13.3%
- Toronto tip 62.5% of the time, with an average of 14.5%
- Vancouver tip 62% of the time, with an average of 13.4%
- Montreal tip 70% of the time, with an average of 14.4%
- Ottawa tip 77% of the time, with an average tip of 15.6%
Ottawa tips the most, and more often. Montreal was a close second. Vancouver ranked second to last (Calgary) by tipping 62% of the time with an average of 14.5%. In Vancouver and Toronto’s defense, the cities are slighlty more expensive to live in compared to Ottawa but still come very close to the appropriate 15%. However, we have no defense for the folks over in Calgary, where daily costs are slightly lower than the other cities.
