Vancouver just got a banana stand.
Yes, you read that right: Amazon has launched a Community Banana Stand program in Vancouver and Toronto, which serves up free bananas once a week to anyone passing by the yellow and white cart. It’s absolutely as strange as it sounds, but if you’re in the area, it may be worth dropping by to get a banana.

Amazon’s Vancouver Community Banana Stand
Vancouver’s Amazon Community Banana Stand opens every Wednesday at 8:30am, where “Banistas” give away free bananas. The stand only recently debuted, having peeled its first fruit on Wednesday, October 14.
The Banistas are “trained community ambassadors who turn a simple piece of fruit into a moment of delight and connection.” And yes, your fur-babies are welcome to have a treat, too: Banistas keep dog treats for pups who are visiting.
“At Amazon, we believe that being a good neighbour means creating simple moments of connection that bring people together,” said Natasha Hodgins, portfolio manager, Global Real Estate and Facilities, Amazon Canada. “Our Community Banana Stand program reflects that philosophy, offering free, healthy snacks to employees, neighbours, and visitors alike as a welcoming gesture to the communities where we operate.”
The banana stands are meant to reflect the program’s principles: “nourish the community, boost the mood, and foster connection.” Vancouver’s stand was purposefully tailored to suit the city’s community, bringing “high-energy service.”
While the idea sounds strange, the banana stands aren’t anything new. The first one was opened in South Lake Union, Seattle in December 2015. Vancouver and Toronto’s stands are part of the program’s Canadian launch.
You can find the stand at Amazon’s Vancouver office, The Post, open every Wednesday at 8:30am until they’re out of bananas for the day.
