There’s something about fall in Vancouver that makes you want to slow things down a little. The air gets cooler, the leaves start changing and suddenly a simple bike ride followed by a warm pastry sounds like the perfect afternoon.

And while we love a good pumpkin patch, fall doesn’t always have to mean pumpkins and Halloween. If you’re looking for Vancouver fall family activities that feel a little different, here are nine cozy ideas worth adding to your fall list.

9 Cozy Family Activities to Enjoy in Vancouver This Fall

Go for a Bike Ride, Then Reward Yourself With Pastries

This might be one of my favourite ways to spend a crisp fall morning. Pick an easy bike route, take your time enjoying the changing leaves and then make the final stop a bakery for croissants, pastries or something warm.

The Stanley Park Seawall is an easy option, with the loop around the park taking about an hour to cycle, while Vancouver’s larger Seaside Greenway gives you plenty of ways to make the ride as short or long as you want.

Walk Through Astra Lumina After Dark

If you want something that feels a little more magical, save this one for later in the season.

Astra Lumina is making its Canadian debut in Stanley Park on October 22, 2026. The nighttime forest walk takes you through nine illuminated zones filled with large-scale lights, projections, music and celestial storytelling. The whole experience takes around 45 to 60 minutes and is open to all ages.

When: Starting October 22, 2026
Cost: Ticketed; advance booking is recommended.

Take a Twilight Forest Walk

There’s a completely different feeling in the forest just before sunset.

Head out while there’s still some daylight, then watch everything slowly get darker as you walk. Bring flashlights and see what your little ones can spot along the way — mushrooms, moss, giant leaves, slugs or even the first stars coming out.

Pack a Cozy Fall Picnic

Picnics aren’t just for summer.

Pack a thermos of hot chocolate or soup, grab some warm pastries, bring a big blanket and find somewhere with colourful leaves or a waterfront view.

You don’t have to make it elaborate either. Takeout totally counts.

I actually think fall picnics can be nicer than summer ones because it’s quieter, cooler and you’re not searching desperately for shade.

Ride the Miniature Railway Before It Closes for the Season

This one feels a little nostalgic, which somehow makes it even better in the fall.

Burnaby Central Railway lets you ride miniature trains around its outdoor railway, and the regular 2026 season runs on Saturdays, Sundays and statutory holidays until Thanksgiving on October 12.

A ride is $5 for anyone age three and older, while those under three ride free.

Go when the weather is cool, bring a warm drink for afterwards and you’ve got a very easy little fall outing without committing your entire day.

Paint Pottery Together

Save this one for a rainy afternoon. Pick a mug, plate or figurine, paint it together and bring home a little keepsake afterward.

Try U Paint I Fire in Kitsilano, Café au Clay in Vancouver, Bella Ceramica in West Vancouver or Hot Pottery Painting in Coquitlam.

Cost: Varies by studio and pottery piece

Go for a Fall Afternoon Tea

For a cozy fall afternoon, Vancouver has a few great tea spots to choose from. Bacchus at the Wedgewood Hotel offers a seasonal Flavours of Fall Afternoon Tea, while Notch8 at Fairmont Hotel Vancouver goes a little moodier with its Haunted Cellar Afternoon Tea. Neverland Tea Salon is a fun whimsical option, and Secret Garden Tea Company and Patisserie Fur Elise are lovely if you want something more classic and cozy. It’s an easy way to turn a rainy October afternoon into something that feels a little more special.

Cost: Afternoon tea typically ranges from about $59 to $82 per person, depending on the venue and seasonal menu.

Have a Board Game Café Afternoon

When the weather turns rainy, a board game café is an easy way to slow down and spend a couple of hours together. Pizzeria Ludica has pizza and a huge game library, Mench Cafe mixes board games with snacks and drinks, and Cafe Duello has more than 80 games to choose from. Pick something everyone can play, order a treat and make an afternoon of it.

Cost: Varies by café, plus food and drinks.

Make Your Own Fall Candle

If you’re in the mood for something extra cozy, candle-making is such a fun fall activity to try together. Homecoming Candles in Vancouver offers workshops for $105 per person, where you make two soy candles and a pair of hand-rolled beeswax candles, while ZOET Studio in Burnaby has creative candle workshops for around $85 per person. It’s a cute way to spend a rainy afternoon and you get to bring something home that actually makes your place smell like fall.

Make the Most of Cozy Fall Days

From pastries and pottery to candle-making and forest walks, fall is the perfect excuse to slow down and enjoy something cozy together.
