Small Axe Studios Hiring in Metro Vancouver
Small Axe Studios is the latest AAA video game studio to join Metro Vancouver, located in Burnaby. As their website writes, “Our name says it all: with vision, drive, and focus, a small axe can take down a big tree. By combining the hunger of a startup with the power of a global gaming giant, we are here to redefine the future of sports video games.”

The studio is connected to 2K, the publisher behind games like Bioshock, NBA 2K, and Borderlands.

There are twelve total job openings listed by Small Axe Studios’ website, including:
- Expert Lighting Artist
- Gameplay Design Director
- Gameplay Systems Software Engineer
- Producer (2)
- Senior Character Artist
- Senior Gameplay Animation Software Engineer
- Senior Gameplay Designer
- Senior Gameplay Online Engineer
- Senior Online Service Software Engineer
- Senior Rendering Software Engineer
- Senior Systems Designer
These positions have a variety of requirements, most of which ask applicants to have experience in the video game industry already. While these aren’t entry-level positions, they’re great if you’ve been working in game design for a while. The positions also list salary ranges, such as the Gameplay Designer Director opening that pays between $153,300 and $229,020 per year.
