North Vancouver is set to complete its newest community centre this summer, which is reportedly the city’s “largest-ever capital project to date.” Designed to meet all the needs of the community, the Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre (HJCRC) is slated to be completed this summer with a wide range of amenities.

The HJCRC’s timeline is long. According to the City of North Vancouver, planning began back in July 2018 and spans all the way up until today. Construction started in 2022 with site preparation and demolition work, with foundation work and finalizations following it in the same year. Major building structural work kicked off in 2024.

The centre is planned to have over 188,450 square feet of program space, as well as a new aquatics facility, arena, gymnasium, indoor and outdoor recreation amenities, multi-purpose rooms, and youth spaces. Here’s a look at some of the major highlights:

  • A multi-use arena with a 500-spectator seating capacity
    • This is an NHL-sized arena that will accommodate sports such as ice-hockey, sledge hockey, skating, lacrosse, and other dry floor activities.
  • An aquatic centre
    • This area will feature a pool with a lazy river, spray features, and tot zone. There will also be a 25m lap pool with swimming lanes, a 3m diving platform, adult hot pool and family hot pool, and steam room and dry sauna.
  • A new skate park
    • The skate park will have benches, rail steps and banks. Additionally, there will be a 7-ft tall, 40-ft long “wall ride” built into the building’s exterior.
  • A community kitchen
  • A new Silver Harbour Seniors’ Activity Centre

Just recently, the city endorsed the HJCRC’s opening date for summer 2026. More specifically, it’ll be opening in July 2026.
