The Vancouver Mural Festival returns for its third year in 2018. While difficult to top the excitement and buzz created by festivities of VMF’s past, this year’s summer festival will spark action in the world of art by adding 30 new murals to the city and introducing new talented artists.

Not only will a week of painting commence but festival organizers have planned parties, dialogues, and art openings leading up to the Mount Pleasant Street Party on Saturday, August 11th.

The festival will attract an approximate 125,000 guests, keeping them entertained with interactive art activities, music, markets, dance contests, graffiti jams, a craft beer garden and more! At 6 p.m a ticketed concert in Jonathan Rodgers park will take place with details coming soon.
2018 VMF Artists

Announced by Create Vancouver Society and with support from the City Of Vancouver, Mount Pleasant BIA, Canadian Heritage and the Province of British Columbia, a lineup of twenty-eight local and international artists with diverse backgrounds, cultures, and artistic focuses will paint the city this year.
Different from previous years, the lineup strongly focuses on female talent and places women at the forefront of the festival. Local standouts and renowned international artists include:

Event organizers will also highlight various murals created in partnership with local organizations like THRIVE Art Studio, Burrard Arts Foundation, The Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House, as well as the Downtown Eastside Centre For The Arts.

Strathcona Street Party

VMF, Strathcona BIA, and festival partners are kicking off the Vancouver Mural Festival with a street party on June 23rd. This is the perfect opportunity to celebrate summer, meet new people, immerse yourself in art, and party (all while having family friendly fun of course).
Four new murals will be featured as well as live art demos, DJ sets, a beer garden by Vancouver Craft Beer Week, food and ice cream trucks, dance battles and more. Information about community partners including Raycam Cooperative Centre, Tradeworks Social Enterprise, EWMA a program of Atira Women’s Resource Societyand Watari Counselling & Support Services will also be provided.

To learn more about the upcoming festival, attend the free dialogue session on Monday, June 18th at Heritage Hall. There will be opportunities for open discussions and questions.
News from the executive director, David Vertesi, the VMF crew, and four of this year’s curator will also be featured.
