It was announced last year that a 50-storey education centre could potentially replace Surrey’s former Stardust roller rink, located at 10240 City Parkway.

The developer WestStone Group, along with CIBT Education Group intend to fill the space with educational institutions and affordable accommodations for student housing, catering towards international students.

The 550,000-square-foot tower would have a student lounge, food court, computer centre, library, and conference rooms. In addition, it will boast residential suites, a fitness centre, and much more.

The project is expected to cost $230-million if it gets the go-ahead. It was originally expected to move forward this year.

Currently, the City of Surrey has had pre-application meetings with the developer but no formal development application has been submitted.

Stardust was a place of nostalgia for many families who spent much of their time there before it closed in 2005.
