Travelling in Vancouver just got a bit less stressful, as Vancouver International Airport (YVR) now offers 30 minutes of free parkade access for all passenger pick-ups and drop-offs.

The change aims to ease congestion along YVR’s curbside and will greatly benefit drivers who are travelling from the airport.

Free Parking at YVR Starting Nov 2024

The new parking regulations started on November 13. Their goal is to improve the visitor experience and help manage the heavy flow of vehicles in and out of the popular airport.

However, note that with this change, parking rates have increased significantly after the first 30 minutes.

Each additional 30 minutes now costs $14, with a daily cap of $65. Previously, rates were much lower, with 30 minutes for $5.50, an hour for $11, and a daily maximum of $40. Travelers should plan their time carefully to avoid high fees.

Alternatively, drivers can use YVR’s free cell phone waiting area. This is located on Aviation Avenue, near JetSet Parking.

Here, drivers can wait as long as they need before heading to the airport area. This is a flexible and cost-free option for those waiting to pick up passengers.

Meanwhile, parking fees for YVR’s JetSet and Value Long-Term options will stay the same. There are also reduced rates for those using Gateway Valet.

Now, the hourly rate for valet parking is $28, with a one-time valet fee of $20. This has dropped from the previous rate of $50 per hour. The daily maximum for valet parking is now $65, with only one $20 valet fee.
