Heavy rainfall is expected to drench the 604 today.

Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for Metro Vancouver – northeast including Coquitlam and Maple Ridge, as well as the North Shore.

According to their reports, a subtropical plume of moisture has taken aim at BC.

This will produce rain, heavy at times, to fall over coastal BC through today and the overnight period, before easing off Friday morning.

Total rainfall amounts of 50 to 80 mm are expected over the next 24 hour period for northeast Vancouver, northwest Vancouver, Howe Sound and west Fraser Valley.

Environment Canada adds that heavy downpours are likely to cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.

Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Landslides may occur in vulnerable areas such as steep slopes.
