Cherry Blossoms are in the air, scattered all over the ground, and that means only one thing. Spring is here.

The annual Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival is here. Mother Nature’s representation of romance, fragility, and growth all rolled into one. The city holds over 40,000 cherry blossom trees, and the blossoming of those endless clouds of flowers are reason enough to celebrate.

A non-profit festival started in 2005 by Linda Poole, as a way of celebrating the cherry blossom trees that were gifted to Vancouver from Japan as well as a way of recognizing the beauty around us. It’s also a way of honouring the ancient Sakura Festivals of Japan (Hanami), a festival that focuses on the importance of beauty’s impermanence – just like the host lifespan of the cherry blossoms.

The festival will be held from April 3rd to April 29th, and several events are being put on in honour of the blossoms.

These events include:

  • Haiku Invitational
  • Vancouver Sings One Song
  • Sakura Night Gala
  • Cherry Jam Downtown Concert
  • Sakura Days Japan Fair
  • The Big Picnic
  • Spring Lights Illumination
  • Tree Talks And Walks
  • Bike The Blossoms
  • BC Blossom Photo Watch
