Vancouver Canucks Trade Ryan Kesler

Vancouver Canucks Trade Ryan Kesler

Let the rebuilding begin.

The Vancouver Canucks have officially traded Ryan Kesler. The trade that took place today (June 27), sent Kesler to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for forward Nick Bonino, defenseman Luca Sbisa, along with the 24th and the 85th picks in NHL 2014 Draft.

On paper, the trade is a good return for the Canucks. In Anaheim, Bonino was the team’s third top scorer last season with 22 goals behind Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry. He’s also good for the Canucks bank as he’ll earn just under $2 million over the next three seasons.

These were Ryan Kesler’s final words after hearing about the trade:

“I hate losing and that season was painful, to be honest,” he said on a conference call. “The fact that they [Canucks] are in a rebuild and are looking to get younger and are years away from being a contender, I think it was just time for me to move on and win and hopefully take home a championship.”
