A Vancouver-born canned cocktail brand is making its first move beyond British Columbia. Suntail Drink Co. is expanding into Alberta, starting in Calgary and Edmonton. The company plans to enter more Alberta markets as its retail presence grows.
The launch gives Suntail its second provincial market. It comes just one year after the tequila cocktail brand debuted in British Columbia.
Calgary and Edmonton launch
Calgary and Edmonton will introduce Suntail to consumers outside its home province. The two cities also offer strong starting points for the brand’s Alberta expansion.
“Alberta has been part of our growth strategy from day one,” said Andrew Racanelli, co-founder of Suntail Cocktails.
“Entering our second province only a year after introducing Suntail is a meaningful milestone for our team. We spent our first year establishing the brand at home, and this expansion shows that Suntail is ready to begin its next chapter.”
Three tequila cocktail flavours
Alberta consumers can choose from all three Suntail flavours:
- Citrón, a lemon-lime margarita
- Sandia, a watermelon margarita
- Soleada, a tropical mango margarita
Each cocktail uses premium blue-agave tequila and micro-carbonation. Suntail uses less fizz than many canned drinks. The result is a smoother, cocktail-style experience.
Each can contains five per cent alcohol by volume, 120 calories and four grams of sugar. The drinks are also vegan and gluten-free. They contain no artificial flavours. The lineup offers citrus, fruit and tropical profiles. At the same time, all three flavours share the same tequila base and margarita-inspired identity.
Suntail created the product to address common concerns in the ready-to-drink category. Many canned cocktails taste overly sweet or heavily carbonated. Some also use lower-quality spirits.
The company instead focused on convenience, flavour and quality ingredients. Its goal was to create a drink that feels closer to a bar-quality cocktail.
Building on B.C. momentum

The Alberta launch follows a busy first year in British Columbia. In February 2026, Suntail’s Sandia and Citrón flavours ranked No. 1 and No. 2 at Vancouver’s Legacy Liquor Store. The company has also built awareness through events and partnerships.
Those activations have included ANYMA, Langley Events Centre, Loula’s during Italian Day and Bass Coast Music Festival.
Social settings remain central to Suntail’s identity. The company gives consumers opportunities to try its drinks at festivals, games, concerts and gatherings with friends.
Suntail will bring that strategy to Alberta. In-store tastings will let shoppers sample the drinks directly. Local creators and events can also help the brand build recognition in both cities.
“Alberta feels like a natural next market for Suntail,” Racanelli said. “The brand was created for adults to enjoy during social occasions, whether that is a backyard gathering, a festival or an event with friends. We believe our focus on quality ingredients and approachable flavours will resonate strongly with Alberta consumers.”
A broader Western Canada strategy
Suntail plans to support the launch with public relations, digital media, influencer partnerships and in-store tastings. The company also expects to announce more local events and retail partnerships.
The Alberta expansion represents the first phase of a broader national strategy. Suntail plans to grow across Western Canada before entering additional Canadian markets.
The company is taking a province-by-province approach. This measured rollout gives Suntail time to build distribution and consumer awareness before moving farther east.
For Alberta shoppers, the first phase will focus on availability. Suntail will update its online store information as new retailers join the launch.
The company will also announce Alberta-based partnerships and events as distribution expands.
“Our goal is to become Alberta’s go-to tequila ready-to-drink brand while continuing to build Suntail into a national Canadian success story,” Racanelli said. “We are excited for Alberta consumers to discover what we have created.”
Suntail four-packs will be available at participating Alberta liquor retailers. Shoppers can visit suntaildrinkco.com for updated availability and new store announcements.
