The Vancouver Art Gallery’s North Plaza is four months behind schedule, but is slated to preview during Canada Day festivities and the 4th Annual Thai Festival on July 22nd to the 23rd.

The plaza however, will be closed in between and after those events through the end of summer 2017.

There was a delay due to the rainy weather and issues with stream tunnels under nearby sidewalks.

The construction includes the removal of the large fountain, mulch fields, and completely transforming the space.

Instead, there will be a large paved space for crowds to gather more easily, considering this is a hot spot for events and protests.

It will be able to accommodate more people with additional seating options, such as benches, tables and chairs.

There will be more greenery, with new Maple trees to liven up the area. In addition, it will be more wheelchair accessible and have a covered area along Hornby Street.
