On Wednesday, TransLink and FortisBC announced a partnership that will source Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) for TransLink’s natural gas bus fleet.

As a result, TransLink is now the first public transportation authority in Canada to use RNG. This new gas source will help fuel its natural gas powered buses.

The regional transportation authority has signed a contract with FortisBC that will provide up to 500,000 gigajoules (GJs) of RNG annually within five years.

This decision is in line with TransLink’s goal of using 100% renewable energy by 2050. RNG is also a great choice for their buses because it’ll help them save on fuel costs, and reduce their environmental footprint.

Likewise, RNG yields higher emissions credits than CNG due to its lower carbon intensity.
