It was mostly filmed around British Columbia last winter from December 2016 through February 2017. Most of the mountain top scenes were shot around Invermere and Panorama Mountain Village near the British Columbia and Alberta border. Locations around the Lower Mainland include the Vancouver International Airport, the Abbotsford International Airport and the Eagle Ridge Hospital in Port Moody. Some re-shoots took place earlier this summer in London.
Director Hany Abu-Assad described the harsh filming conditions with harsh climate and cold temperatures. The day-to-day included driving 40 minutes to the film’s base camp and then weather permitting flying the cast and crew via helicopter to the mountaintop destinations for shooting. The winter survival movie is set in the High Unitas Wilderness located in northeastern Utah. The highest peak there reaches over 13,000 feet.
“Stranded after a tragic plane crash, two strangers must forge a connection to survive the extreme elements of a remote snow covered mountain. The film is directed by Academy Award nominee Hany Abu-Assad and stars Academy Award winner Kate Winslet and Golden Globe winner Idris Elba.”
