Open from 5:30pm-1am during the week, this restaurant boasts that there is “vegetarian, vegan, raw, gluten free options abound!” The menu has items that are able to compete with some of the the finest dining in Vancouver. Further, they take pride in actually cooking with a health-conscious attitude. No 2000 calorie salads on this menu!
Foundation, Main Street
Known for the crazy line up of Vancouver hipsters come Friday night, the Foundation takes pride in being one of the very first full vegetarian and vegan restaurants in the city. Open until 1am, the joint is most famous for their piled-high nachos, burgers, and chilli all deliciously suitable for any vegan or vegetarian in a group. My favourite item on the menu is the chocolate fondue served with a ton of fruit! Check out Foundation, you won’t be disappointed nor will you remember you didn’t eat meat at dinner!
Gorilla Food, Richards Street
Gorilla Food is so much more than just a restaurant. They make it their mission to education people about healthy eating, grow their own food, promote wellness, and offer programs for people so they can live their healthiest life possible. They see themselves as a “mission-based business” that strives to help sustainable, agricultural, creative projects! This do good company has a ton of menu options. From burgers, to salads, to curry, to lasagna and pizza there is definitely something for everyone to try! With a company so committed to your health, how could these guys not be featured?
Heirloom, South Granville
Perhaps best known for their brunches, Heirloom’s tagline is “Eat More Vegetables” and with their lengthy menu options this just may be a yummy possibility. This restaurant was even voted one of the top new restaurants of 2013! With brunch options such as quinoa hash, buckwheat pancakes with cashew cream, and power foods such as tofu and kale on several omelettes, Sunday brunch never tasted so good! Definitely a must try for breakfast lovers.
The Black Lodge, Kingsway
Open for dinner every night of the week, The Black Lodge is essentially pub food done vegetarian! With menu options such as chickpea and lentil sliders, and an extensive vegan “smokie” list, this place is the perfect place for a night out with friends after a long week. Don’t even get me started on the dessert menu which features gluten-free smore’s and cherry pie!
