Stage 1 water restrictions are in effect across metro Vancouver as of May 15, and residents should be aware of the rules to avoid fines.
Though stage 1 has the lightest conditions, Metro Vancouver is warning residents that bylaw enforcement officers will be out in full force to ensure compliance and issue up to $500 fines.
Restrictions have come into effect two weeks earlier this year as a safety precaution. Most will remember the region entering Stage 3 water restrictions last summer, which heavily controlled the use of water for both residential and commercial properties.

Stage 1 Water Restrictions primarily limit residential lawn sprinkling and limit it to the following days and times:
- Even-numbered addresses Monday, Wednesday, Saturday mornings 4 am to 9 am
- Odd-numbered addresses Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday mornings 4 am to 9 am
Non-residential lawn sprinkling dates and times:
- Even-numbered addresses: Monday and Wednesday mornings from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. PT
- Odd-numbered addresses: Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. PT
All addresses: Friday mornings from 4 a.m. to 9 a.m.
Stage 1 water restrictions are currently scheduled to remain in effect until October 15, 2016. Metro Vancouver may shift into Stage 2 water restrictions if necessary.
