Many Vancouverites celebrated the first day of summer 2016 by soaking in the rare “Strawberry Moon”, a celestial event that was the first of its kind since 1967.
Although not shaped or displayed as a strawberry like most would assume, the moon was still a treat for skywatchers on Monday night as it shined across the region.

The twice in a generation event was initially named by farmers in North America to signal the start of strawberry and/or fruit picking season. In Europe, some refer to the event as the “Peach Moon”.
It won’t be until 2062 when the Strawberry Moon makes its return. Until then, you can enjoy the following photos below captured by locals across metro Vancouver.
