Free parking on Granville Island will soon be a thing of the past.
In an effort to free up space, drivers will soon be charged for parking on the island from 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. daily.
The change is expected to come into place on June 1st, 2019 and will force drivers to park anywhere on Granville Island as a result.
However, free parking will be available after 6:00 p.m.

Motorists will be charged $3/hour from May 1st to September 30th and $2/hour from October 1st to April 30th.
According to the Canada Mortgage Housing Corporation, the new pay system will increase parking availability by 15%.
There are currently over 1,200 parking stalls on Granville Island and the area is often strangled by motorists looking for free parking. The new system only gives drivers one option and it predicts vehicle traffic will move faster across the island.
