If the weather stays in our favour this weekend, the famed Northern Lights just might be visible over Vancouver.
This is possible due to a “G2 Moderate Watch” issued by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) for Sunday, September 1st.

In addition, the University of Alaska has issued a high Auroral activity alert.

Due to the solar storms, the university predicts that the auroral activity will be visible overhead from “Inuvik, Yellowknife, Rankin and Iqaluit to Vancouver, Helena, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Bay City, Toronto, Montpelier, and Charlottetown, and visible low on the horizon from Salem, Boise, Cheyenne, Lincoln, Indianapolis and Annapolis.”
As for the day before, August 31st, “highly active auroral displays will be visible” in numerous cities across Canada and the United States.
However, for the Northern Lights to be seen, clear skies are needed.
If you want the best view, you should go as far away from the city lights as you can get. Parks, remote and rural areas are typically better for catching a glimpse of this natural wonder.
