A North Vancouver smoking ban may soon be reality.
On Monday night, May 6th, Councillor Jessica McIIroy put forward a motion that calls to “incorporate a ban on smoking in all parks and plazas and on multi-use pathway”.
Furthermore, she asked that the definition of “smoking” be updated given the legalization of cannabis and the increased use of vaporizers.

According to her motion, McIIroy states that “there is no risk-free level of exposure to second-hand smoke” The Councillor goes on to say that by enhancing smoking bylaws, smokers get more support to quit and the harm to children is reduced.
North Vancouver Smoking Ban
The City’s Smoking Bylaw has been revised to include new smoking regulations for business owners. Smoking within 7.5 metres of a public building is NOT permitted. Smoking is also not allowed near playgrounds and picnic areas.
Her motion concludes by asking staff to report back with input from the RCMP and Vancouver Coastal Health with recommended updates to the Smoking Regulation Bylaw.
