Norovirus Breaks Out At Surrey Memorial Hospital

Staff at Surrey Memorial are trying to control an outbreak of Norovirus after the gastrointestinal illness was detected in three different units in recent days.

The Fraser Heath authority says the virus is now present in just one unit and those patients are quarantined. They are expected to release more details on Thursday morning.

Norovirus is a gastrointestinal illness, which causes vomiting and diarrhea. This can be debilitating for the very young, the very old and those with weakened immune systems. It spreads through contact with infected people or contact with items they touch.
