This Wednesday, August 16th is National Rum Day and there is no better way to celebrate than with a refreshing rum medley of your choice.

Dead giveaway! As the name implies, this popular Commercial Drive bar is fashioned after Cuba’s Old Havana. Havana has a decidedly laid back and fun atmosphere, and there are plenty of yummy share plates and entrees on the menu.
You’ll be able to order a pitcher of delectable rum mojito and sit back with a pal or two on their famous patio. Great for people watching, having laughs, and taking in the summer breeze, the patio is the perfect place to sip all day long. Their pitchers are never a disappointment: plenty of mint and fresh, quality ingredients.

Lobby Lounge Raw Bar in the Fairmont Pacific Rim

If you are looking for something a little more glamorous, The Fairmont Pacific Rim’s Lobby Lounge has a touch of class in an elegant part of downtown Vancouver.
An open layout and lovely music will accompany your cocktail party, and the cocktails are exquisite, to say the very least.
One of the drinks, called the Kaijū, is an exotic blend of Cuban Rum, Wasabi, Lime, cucumber, and absinthe. While this drink is certainly an anomalous adventure, keep in mind that they go for a pretty penny at $18 each – yikes!

Calabash Bistro

If you are in the mood to party and have some mouth-watering Caribbean cuisine , Calibash Bistro has got you covered!
Jerk chicken, fry fish, and fried coconut dumplings all make appearances on this tempting menu. They also have a full downstairs lounge that hosts myriad music from blues to jazz to funk and beyond.
Last, but certainly not least, is their outstanding rum cocktail menu – wow!
One example is the Black Cherry & Vanilla Pina Colada. This little number is described as such: Chilled coconut cream, fresh vanilla infused lemon hart Demerara rum, black cherry & pineapple juice, shaken and served over crushed ice.
With eleven rum cocktails on their drink menu, celebrating will not be difficult.

Pourhouse

The cocktails are phenomenal at this Gastown restaurant. The Pourhouse also has lots of scrumptious eats like smoked salmon tartare, steak and frites, scotch eggs, watermelon salad and much more.
Their New World cocktail has Gosling’s Black Seal Rum, Amontillado Sherry, Lime Juice, Egg White, Angostura Bitters – yum!
Grain Tasting Bar in the Hyatt Regency

A classy, laid-back room, the Grain Tasting Bar has a nice view of downtown Vancouver and is a great place to relax and sip on a refreshing cocktail. They also have a selection of delicious pizzas, tacos and appetizers on the menu, so you won’t go hungry while you drink.
Their tropic thunder has havana club rum, ancho pineapple syrup, lime, pineapple juice, bowmore and chili flakes – a delightfully spicy and fruity escape!
The bar is also conveniently located by the Burrard Skytrain station, so you won’t have far to go for a safe ride home!
