Metro Vancouver is filled with so much fantastic food– Japanese especially. You can find a sushi or ramen restaurant practically everywhere these days, but what about Japan’s other national dish: curry?
In 2020, Mr. Japanese Curry was opened, and Vancouver hasn’t been able to find a better Japanese curry spot since. With a focus on flavour and customer experience, you’ll be treated to a dining experience here like no other.
Excitingly, Mr. Japanese Curry is expanding this year with their newest project: completely authentic matcha!
AUTHENTICITY
5 years ago, Vancouver was completely devoid of a Japanese curry-focused restaurant. Mr. Japanese Curry sought to fill that gap with their deliciously rich curry sauces. After some research in Japan, the restaurant was born and welcomed warmly into the community.

Mr. Japanese Curry has a strong appreciation for keeping things very authentic. All the curry sauces are made from scratch, with the beef curry sauce recipe coming from a popular curry manufacturer in Hyogo, Japan. It’s like eating in Japan– you won’t even realize you’re in Vancouver until your plate is clean.
CUSTOMER-FIRST SERVICE
But what is a restaurant without superb service? Mr. Japanese Curry has that in spades– most notably seen through their entirely customizable menu. Want less spice? No problem. More rice? Absolutely. Full curry sauce? Of course! It’s your curry!

The restaurant believes that everyone should be able to enjoy their curry no matter their food restrictions, so dishes are modified to allow everybody to have a taste.
MORI MATCHA
For you matcha lovers out there, Mr. Japanese Curry has some very exciting news for you. In late 2025, their new project “Mori Matcha” will be launching!

You can expect high-quality, authentic matcha straight from Kyoto, Japan from Mr. Japanese Curry. If you’ve ever doubted that the matcha you’re drinking is actually from Japan, then wonder no further. With Mori Matcha, you’ll always known your matcha was grown in a tea farm directly from Japan .Mori Matcha will be available online, at local farmers markets, pop-up events, and possibly even your neighbourhood grocery store.
