Vancouver’s Kitsilano Pool Set To Open This May

While Metro Vancouver experienced its hottest weather of 2018 the other week, not all of its pools were open to enjoy.

Now, the city’s only saltwater swimming pool is slated to reopen for the beautiful weather.

The family-friendly Kitsilano Pool is located right along Kitsilano Beach, and offers one of the most jaw-dropping views in the Lower Mainland. What’s more, it measures an credible 137 metres in length; this makes it over double the size of an Olympic pool!

In addition, the outdoor pool is located near the restaurants, cafés, and neighbourhood of Kitsilano. As a result, its the ideal place to spend an entire day. There’s even 2 fun slides to enjoy!

Kitsilano Pool Upgrades

The popular pool is slated to open on May 19th; however, it is currently closed due to construction. As a result, unforeseen circumstances could prevent it from opening on that exact date.

With that in mind, the construction will improve the overall facility. For one thing, the upgrades will significantly reduce the use of potable water (approximately 430,000 gallons per month), making the water feel saltier for an enhanced swimming experience.

Project benefits include:

  • Electric power will eliminate the need for gas powered pumps during pool dewatering
  • The seawall will no longer need to be closed to accommodate dewatering pumps
  • Noise and emissions associated with gas powered pumps will be eliminated
