Vancouver’s Outdoor Kitsilano Pool Extends Final Summer Swim Date For 2019

UPDATE: The Vancouver Park Board has extended Kitsilano Pool’s summer season and will now be open until Sunday, September 15th, 2019.

After the record-breaking temperatures across Metro Vancouver in March, we can’t help but think about the summer ahead. On that note, the Kitsilano Pool has announced its opening date for 2019.

As the city’s only saltwater swimming pool, this beautiful waterfront pool is located right along Kitsilano Beach.

The family-friendly pool measures an incredible 137 metres in length, as a result, this makes it over double the size of an Olympic pool. In addition, there’s even two slides to make your visit even more memorable.

Kitsilano Pool Opening Date

Kitsilano Pool is slated to open on Saturday, May 18th, 2019.

Furthermore, the pool underwent a number of upgrades last year and the overall facility has improved greatly.

For one thing, the upgrades have significantly reduced the use of potable water (approximately 430,000 gallons per month), making the water feel saltier for an enhanced swimming experience.

Here are the other upgrade benefits:

  • Electric power has eliminated the need for gas powered pumps during pool dewatering
  • The seawall no longer needs to be closed to accommodate dewatering pumps
  • Noise and emissions associated with gas powered pumps have been eliminated

You can check out the hours of operation and admission here.
