Kings Hammer Canucks In L.A.

Anytime you score the first goal on the road you got to feel that you have a really good chance at stealing one.

Dan Hamhuis did score the first goal for the Vancouver Canucks Monday night against the Los Angeles Kings in the second period. With the teams at even strength, Hamhuis drove to the net and redirected Linden Vey‘s cross-ice feed past Quick at 2:39 for his 2nd on the year.

Unfortunately after that the Canucks lost all momentum and looked flat.

Drew Doughty, and Anze Kopitar scored two goals in the second period, Vincent Lecavalier added one in the third, and Jeff Carter added two goals in the third period including an empty-net goal to secure the victory.

Doughty tied the game when his wrist shot from the left circle trickled between Miller’s pads at 10:07 of the second period for his 13th of the year.

Kopitar gave Los Angeles a 2-1 lead with a power-play goal at 12:06. After Canucks forward Alexandre Burrows was whistled for tripping, Kopitar took a pass from Doughty and beat Miller with a wrist shot from the right circle. It was Kopitar’s 20th goal and Doughty’s 30th assist.

In the third period, the Kings cracked the game wide open.

Carter made it 3-1 when he skated into the Canucks zone with the puck and beat Miller with a wrist shot from the right circle at 11:39 of the third period for his 16th goal on the year.

LeCavalier gave the Kings a three-goal lead at 12:18 of the third, when his slap shot from the left circle squeaked past Miller for his 6th of the year.

Carter conclude the scoring by potting an empty-net goal at 16:03 for his 17th.

“It was frustrating,” Miller said. “Two of their shots hit me hard and trickled through me. I needed to be better.”

On the night the Canucks were 0-5 on the power play, failed to generate any offense while in position of the puck.

In the loss Ryan Miller made 24 saves, while Jonathan Quick made 21 saves to get the win.
