In an earlier post, we wrote about “dreaminontransit“, an Instagram account dedicated to catching you sleeping on metro Vancouver transit and then sharing it with the world. We recently caught up with the person behind the Instagram page to learn more of its purpose.
Our questions are below in red:
1. Who are you?
I’m Dreaminontransit, an Instagram account that follows the life of sleepers on Vancouver transit. Whether you’re on a bus, skytrain or seabus, you could be featured on my account if you’re caught snoozin’.
2. Does anyone know who you are?
I have a couple people who know who I am. I like staying anonymous, keeps people curious :)
3. Why did you decide to start an Instagram account with people asleep on transit?
My daily commute is always with transit and I kept seeing people dozing off or sleeping and found it hilarious! And apparently others find it interesting too!
4. You’ve created this about 9 months ago and have already garnered over 5000 followers. Are you surprised at how popular dreaminontransit has become?
I actually created a Tumblr account for DOT 2 years ago when I first thought of the idea. It wasn’t really taking off so I thought an Instagram account might be better suited for the project. I was taken aback about how popular the account got. After being featured in a couple newspapers and an on air interview on The Kid Carson Show, I kinda knew it was going to be a big thing.
5. Have you ever taken a picture of someone napping and got caught?
I have had a couple times where I left my flash on by accident and had to quickly play it cool, but other then that, not that I know of! Of course, if anybody does have a problem with their photos up, I would definitely take them down no questions asked.
6. How long will this go on for?
I’m not too sure. I think the account is going pretty well and I have a lot of awesome loyal followers, so it won’t be ending anytime soon.
7. Which bus and skytrain lines do you frequent most often?
I’m everywhere. I take pretty much every train line, I have a couple bus routes here and there, but nothing worth revealing. Don’t want anybody to get more paranoid than they already are. :)
8. Do you have any interesting stories from nappers or people who have submitted pictures that you would like to share?
I’ve had many followers submit photos of my close friends sleeping, as well my uncle crazy enough! It’s also great to see nappers caught being good sports about the picture in the comment sections. This is all light-hearted fun and I’m glad many people have realized this.
9. Is there anything else you’d like to share to our readers about dreaminontransit?
Nappers beware. :)
