The Grouse Grind is one of Metro Vancouver’s most beloved hiking destinations; however, the price for the Skyride gondola on the way down just unexpectedly increased.

Effective as of May 1st, the cost per person for the ride down is $15. Prior to this, the cost for a ride down was $10.

While the gondola is a nice feature, not every hiker was prepared for the increase.

Grouse Mountain reportedly didn’t let the public know via their social media channels. As a result, many people were caught off guard when they arrived at the attraction.

604 Now spoke to hiking enthusiast Mike Fukumura about his latest experience at the trail.

“I was pretty surprised. I am disappointed they never made mention.. at least not that I saw,” he said. “Everyone I’ve told since are quite shocked at the big increase.”

Unfortunately, hikers don’t have the option to travel down the Grind by foot. The trail is so steep and narrow that downhill travel is not permitted by Metro Vancouver. The primary reason for this is safety – both yours and that of your fellow hikers.

In addition, the Grouse Grind was designed to be an upward hike and descending the trail will cause considerable damage.

The Grind opened this year on May 2nd, and will be closing down again on May 22nd for safety maintenance.

You can purchase your download ticket at Alpine Guest Services in the Peak Chalet which also offers full service facilities including food and beverage as well as a retail store (featuring a well-deserved “I survived the Grind” moisture-wicking t-shirt).

If you don’t want to pay the price, hikers can also do down the Grouse Grind for free using the BCMC trail, which is located next to the Grind.
