Frolicking Orcas Closely Follow Kayakers Near Galiano Island (Video)

Orcas

Some kayakers had an up-close-and-personal encounter with a few playful orcas over the weekend.

They first spotted the frolicking whales while they were kayaking between Sphinx and Wise Islands.

In an Instagram post they recall how the orcas continued to follow them while they were on the water, and that they seemed to be enjoyed their company.

We had the most epic weekend on gorgeous Galiano Island. Didn’t hike all the trails I had wanted to because these pesky orcas just followed us around everywhere. First surrounding us kayaking between Sphinx and Wise Islands and then the buggers followed us home to the north end of the island near Dionisio. Ha! Experience of a lifetime lemme tell ya! Check out my Instastories for more and stay tuned to my website hikesnearvancouver.ca for a blog post coming soon with all the deets and some epic photos and video clips once I’ve had a chance to get them off our good cameras. The orcas appear to be having a great time swimming and they stayed with the kayakers for quite some time.

In addition to Galiano Island, Vancouver Island is a great place to see wildlife, enjoy water sports and go hiking. There is a hike that leads to a gorgeous triple tumbling waterfall and a hike that leads to a picturesque swing on the beach.
