Ford has recently issued a recall across Canada that includes over 600,000 vehicles. The recall is due to a software glitch that reportedly causes the trailer brakes to malfunction, with the exterior lights similarly failing.

Ford Recall In Canada

According to Ford, the recall affects approximately 627,517 vehicles in Canada. Of the affected vehicles, the recall includes some of Ford’s most popular vehicles, such as certain 2022-2026 Super Duty trucks, 2021-2026 F-150s, and 2024-2026 Rangers. It also applies to some 2022-2026 Expedition, 2022-2026 Navigator, and 2022-2026 Maverick vehicles.

The issue is specifically to do with the software. When pulling a trailer, the glitch can cause the trailer to stop communicating with the vehicle. This causes the trailer’s stop lamps and turn signals to not illuminate. The trailer’s brakes can also stop functioning in some cases. If a driver does experience this glitch, a “Trailer Brake Module Fault” message will show up on the instrument panel cluster as the turn signal indicator flashes quickly.

This increases the risk of a crash, as nonfunctioning lights or brakes can reduce driver control.

Ford will be issuing an over-the-air software update on March 17 for affected vehicles. This update can be applied via mobile service or by visiting a Ford dealer. Most recalled vehicles will be able to receive the update before the end of March. All vehicles will be included by the end of May.

If you are unsure if your vehicle is affected by the recall, then you can use Ford’s Recalls Check page to check if it is.
