There’s nothing like having a cold beverage on a waterfront patio in Metro Vancouver; however, this Vancouver Island gem takes things to the next level.

Located on Protection Island, this unique establishment serves drinks and food as it floats on the water.

The island is only a 10 minute ferry ride from Nanaimo Harbour, which boasts ultimate convenience for locals and tourists looking to sip somewhere a little more special.

Operating since 1989, The Dinghy Dock Pub & Floating Restaurant is Canada’s only registered floating pub. Although it was originally designed to function as a marina, the spot has expanded three times with tremendous success.

The pub has docks that range in size and fit vessels as small as kayaks and as large as a 50 inch sail or power boat. In turn, this allows visitors to reach the island by their own vessel instead of the ferry, if they wish. It also has a ramp that connects the pub to the island that allows visitors to walk the rock beaches or visit the parks or view the heron rookery.

The scrumptious eats include fresh seafood and a unique twist on classic pub fare in addition to local beers from Vancouver Island. Also, they feature live music and music trivia to keep guests entertained while they eat and sip!

There many magical places to discover on Vancouver Island. A couple include: a rope swing at the end of a hike on Vancouver Island and a triple tumbling waterfall.
