Facebook’s New Monetization Scheme.. Desperate

Back in December Facebook announced that it was experimenting with a pay to message scheme. The proposed scheme would allow users to message people they did not know for $1. It appears that Facebook has taken that concept to the next level as multiple sources are reporting that now the company is charging $100 to users who are not following Mark Zuckerberg to MESSAGE HIM.

Facebook is only charging people who are not following Mark Zuckerberg, so one will have to be totally unaware that they can message the founder and CEO Facebook by following him. This way users who pay will be able to message him and the message will not reach his ‘Others’ inbox.

Facebook seems to be on a monetization spree. It is experimenting with different concepts and this could also be another test.

We knew Facebook was eager for new revenue streams. We just didn’t know they were this desperate. Can you see a situation in which you’d pay the extreme price point of $100?
