Police are warning the public about respecting the speed limit after they pulled over two luxury cars for excessive speeding this past weekend.

On the morning Thursday, Aug 2nd, police were performing routine a traffic enforcement in the 25800 block of Lougheed Hwy. During the inspection, they noticed two cars travelling at very “high rates of speed.”

A blue 2017 Lamborghini Aventador and a black 2016 McLaren 675H were travelling East bound when police stopped them.

Not only were the vehicles going over the 80 km/hr speed limit, but laser equipment recorded speeds of 138 km/h.

What’s more, the driver of the Black McLaren, a 22 year old Burnaby resident, is an `N` driver.

In addition, the driver of the Blue Lamborghini is also a 22 year old Burnaby resident; however, he is not an ‘N’ driver.

Sadly, both men have previously had excessive speeding infractions and fines before this incident.

“This stretch of Lougheed Highway is our number one problem area when it comes to excessive speed,” states Traffic Sergeant Bruce McCowan.

“No matter the time of year this specific area is plagued with unsafe speeds, 24/7, regardless of the road and weather conditions. We have seen too many tragic outcomes where all the driver needed to do was just slow down.”

Both cars were immediately impounded for a minimum of 7 days upon being pulled over. In addition, both drivers received fines of $368, as well as 3 points on their respective driving records.

An incident report will be forwarded to the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles for further review.
