Spring is in the air, and that means the return of one of Richmond’s most picturesque annual events! The Richmond Cherry Blossom Festival is set to take place on Sunday, April 6, at Garry Point Park (12011 – 7th Avenue) from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

This free festival is a celebration of Japanese culture, cherry blossoms, and community spirit, bringing people together to admire the breathtaking 255 Akebono cherry trees that were donated to the city by the BC Wakayama Kenjin Kai.

Richmond Cherry Blossom Festival

This year’s festival theme is 笑顔 (Egao) – “Smile”, reflecting the joy and warmth that blossoms in the community during this time of year.

Visitors can enjoy a variety of cultural performances, exhibits, and traditional Japanese experiences, including:

  • The Sakura Tent – Featuring performances and demonstrations on the main stage, including welcoming remarks from Mayor Malcolm Brodie, energetic taiko drumming, and captivating folk singing and dancing.
  • The Hanami Tent – Showcasing calligraphy, bonsai, and sakura-inspired artwork from talented local artisans.
  • The Chibi-Chan Tent – A fun, interactive space where children can learn the art of origami, crafting delicate paper creatures using traditional Japanese techniques.
  • Food Trucks & Vendors – Offering a variety of delicious Japanese-inspired dishes that can be enjoyed while relaxing under the beautiful cherry blossoms.
