On Tuesday, Cypress Mountain announced that they’re upgrading their nighttime lighting with new LED lights.

Over 560 metal halide trail lights for both the Downhill and Nordic facilities will be replaced with LED lights. These new lights will offer a much improved night experience for visitors.

“”This initiative will reduce our annual trail lighting power consumption by 60% and provide our skiers and riders with a much improved night experience” said Jeremy Wentzel, Director of Operations at Cypress Mountain”.

Cypress Mountain has partnered up with Climate Smart Businesses to make these changes possible.

Furthermore, this Low Carbon Economy Fund initiative will help reduce over 1.3 million tonnes of CO2.

In other words, switching to these LED lights will help the mountain resort reduce “their emissions associated with electricity use by 61% and their energy use by nearly 50,000 GJ over the lifetime of the project”.

This project is expected to be fully completed by Spring 2020.

In the meantime, Whistler Blackcomb is already getting some powder, so there’s that.
