City of Vancouver Lifeguard Positions
So, what are the perks of being a lifeguard with the City of Vancouver? For one, you’ll be making a direct impact on the city’s community by making sure everyone is being safe in the water. Moreover, you’ll be able to build important life skills and act as a role model, especially for the younger swimmers.
This is a fantastic job opportunity for those looking to branch out into similar career paths, as lifeguards have many skills that paramedics and firefighters have. It’s also great for students who want flexibility in their work schedule. Whether you want to work seasonally or part-time, this can definitely be accommodated.
And as for the pay, it’s very good, especially when you consider all the skills you’ll be learning on the job. For indoor lifeguard positions, they start between $25.21 to $29.63/hour, with an additional 12% in lieu of benefits.
Outdoor lifeguard positions start at $30.81/hour with an additional 12% in lieu of benefits, as well.
Lifeguard Requirements
Since being a lifeguard is a very important position, those looking to be hired must have the appropriate certification to be considered. You can find all the prerequisites and requirements below, as well as optional experience. Additionally, you must be at least 15 years old to apply.
Prerequisites
- Bronze Medallion (13+ years)
- Bronze Cross (13+ years)
Required
- Standard First Aid with CPR C/AED (14+ years)
- From one of the recognized agencies including: Lifesaving Society, Canadian Red Cross, St. John Ambulance, Canadian Ski Patrol, or Heart and Stroke Foundation
- Swim Instructor and National Lifeguard Certification (15+ years)
Optional
- Aquafit and lifesaving instructor (15+ years)
Course dates have yet to be announced as of now, but do anticipate them coming soon. After your certification is complete, all that’s left is a final screening. This is an interview with evaluation components on land and in the water.
