Are you a true spicy food fan if you don’t like spicy chicken wings? Probably not. After much hype, we tried The Bobby Wing. Key word: we tried to try The Bobby Wing. This spicy wing has 5 chili peppers beside its name on the menu and even requires a signed waiver form before you dig in. The rest of Wings menu offers amazing spicy dishes that will keep your tastebuds on your tongue, don’t worry.
You’re probably wondering how Noodlebox made our list. You may be thinking, “This place ain’t that spicy.” Clearly, you have never attempted to eat your noodles surrounded by ghost chilies and Thai chilies. That’s exactly what you’ll get if you order any menu item and ask for it Scorching Hot. The description used by Noodlebox for this level of hotness even says you’re a crazy person if you order your meal THAT spicy. But it’s worth the mouth-numbing if you have a soft spot for spice.
SalaThai | 102-888 Burrard Street
Thai food and spice go perfectly together. The nearly harmonious combination allows for an authentic Thai taste that will transport you to the beaches of Koh Phi Phi. SalaThai does just that when you bite into any of their traditional Thai dishes. Nearly all of their meals offer a spicy option, but be sure to ask your server for the “hottest” version. Our favourite is the classic Pad Thai Chao Wang – spice that bad boy up and your tastebuds will praise you.
Jinya Ramen Bar | 270 Robson Street
Finding a true ramen gem is tough. Vancouver has a number of spots that serve up a hot bowl of Japanese broth, so it can be hard to find the Unicorn in a herd of horses. Jinya Ramen Bar is our Unicorn. Order up the Tonkotsu Red Ramen, which features hot ingredients like red hot chili oil and spicy bean sprouts. You can pick your level of spice from 1-10 (go big or go home) to give your broth the proper zing.
Green Lettuce | 1949 Kingsway Street
What do you get when you mix Indian style meals with Chinese cuisine? The Green Lettuce is born. Get your fix of Indian spice while also enjoying unique Chinese dishes that boast a tantalizing taste unlike anything you’ve ever put in your mouth before. Any of the menu items can be ordered spicy, but we suggest the Pili Chicken or Beef. A Green Lettuce original dish that will make you run home to your mama.
The hottest Malaysian food in the 604. See what we did there? In all seriousness, Banana Leaf whips up a spicy plate of traditional fare that will leave you speechless. Mostly because their level of spice is piquant perfection. Most menu items offer a spicy option, just look for the cute pepper symbol beside each name. Our favourite is the Mango Chili Prawns with Basil Leaves: Shell-off tiger prawns cooked in a classic Malay spicy robust sauce, made of chili, garlic, lemongrass and dried shrimp paste.
