Airbnb And the FIFA World Cup
The FIFA World Cup isn’t just any soccer game— it’s the world’s most-watched sporting event. Millions of fans flock to host cities to watch their team play against the best of the best. This year, around 204,000 people are expected to head to Vancouver to watch the matches play out at BC Place. And that means Vancouver will also be filled with people looking for places to stay.
According to Deloitte data, house hosts in Vancouver could earn roughly $4,200 by renting their space on Airbnb.

Airbnb notes further survey data from Focaldata shows that “potential new hosts are motivated by opportunities to boost their income to help afford basic living costs, and to share their communities with guests.” Moreover, 42% of respondents would primarily use the extra income to help clear debts. 33% would cover living expenses, and 29% would use the income to save more.
First-Time Hosts
Airbnb’s offer is valid for new entire home hosts in any of the 16 World Cup Host cities in Canada, the U.S., and Mexico who welcome their first guests between now and July 31, 2026. Eligible hosts can receive approximately $1,000 CAD.
This is on top of what you will already be earning as an Airbnb host, too.
You can easily check if your home is within the eligible event zone through Airbnb’s website. If it is, then all you need to do is provide your information, publish your listing, and begin hosting. You can find more information about Airbnb and the FIFA World Cup right here.
